Replicating tunes and solos by memory and recall ability (or by "rote" as music philosophers call it) will tremendously improve you above many of your colleagues who may have been playing guitar for many more years than you have. Taking a look at what I've just talked about, listening to your favorite guitar instructional video doesn't sound that crazy after all now, does it? Experiment with it for yourself and see if it doesn't improve your playing. But don't overlook you must also practice listening ... to put it differently do it often so you can do it effectively!
