Langkawi Underwater World is probably one of the most awesome places to visit in Langkawi. It houses the largest aquarium in South East Asia with exciting arrays of marine and fresh water animals. It was open to public since 26 August 1995 and has attracted many visitors from all over the world. A travel to Langkawi is consider not complete without visiting Langkawi Underwater world.
Underwater World Langkawi is located on the southern coast of the Langkawi Island itself near the popular Cenang beach which is another tourist destination with its beautiful [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] long sandy beach and lovely sunset sea view. The Underwater World has the largest aqua tanks in Malaysia and has over 4,000 marine animals consisting of more than [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] 500 unique species of aquatic creatures all beautifully displayed in over 100 specially designed fish tanks. Among the marine lives that can be seen are the giant green turtle, the hungry big white tip sharks, the eerie stingray and huge groupers. Other surrounding tanks host many more sea creatures such as Puffer fish, Sea Anemones, Lion fish, Sea Dragons, the Hermit Crab and many more.
There are many more species in the freshwater section on displays. These include the Garfish, Bala Shark, Catfish and different species of Stingray. They come from various regions around the world from our own South East Asia to Africa, Australia and all the way from the Amazon in South America. On the preview tanks you can discover some Snapping Alligators, the Red Eared [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Slider, the Albino Turtles and the largest freshwater fish - the Arapaima. There is a 60,000 square feet new building which houses the sub Antarctic animals such as the interesting 20" Rockhopper Penguin, the smallest [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] among the penguin family which was brought in from their native South Africa in 2003. Also present is the Southern Fur Seals from Peru and Southern Brazil and the Blackfooted African Penguin. In the tropical rainforest section you can get a glimpse of the awesome Anaconda, the king of snake from the Amazon River and the Marmoset monkey both from the South American continent. Within the vicinity visitors can observe the lovely Flamingoes and Mute Swans fluttering freely in their natural habitat. The remaining two sections are the pond section and the coral section. They have the tropical Koi Pond with lovely waterfall and colorful fishes in which the visitors can get a chance of feeding them. Last but not least, there is the colorful coral exhibit called the Underwater Garden with a wonderful display of colorful Nemo fish and the bright colored coral reefs are among the highlights here.
